E. Wayne O'Dell
, a long-time resident of Morris Plains, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, March 3, 2018. He was 93.
Wayne was born in Vandalia, MI, to the late Earl and Daisy Mead O'Dell. Along with his 4 siblings, he graduated from Calumet High School in Chicago, IL. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, studied Mechanical Engineering at Antioch College, and earned his MS in Applied Physics at Brown University. Wayne enjoyed his work as a Research Physicist, including at Allied Signal (in Morristown) as part of the Crystal Growth group.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth D. O'Dell, and by his siblings Marita Lichti, Jean Clothier, and Paul O'Dell. He is survived by his brother Glenn O'Dell; by his children Mark O'Dell (Laura), Glenn O'Dell (Anne Marie) and Sarah Antal (Brian); and by his grandchildren Abby, Sam, Thomas, Elsa and Ben.
Wayne enjoyed Photography, Genealogy research (which kept him busy on his computer), and building and flying model airplanes. He shared his love of crystals and minerals with his family through visits to his lab and trips to the Franklin Mineral Mines. He was known for his kind and gentle manner, for enjoying a bowl of ice cream at any time of day or night, and for his usual parting phrase... "Be Good To Yourself."
