Margaret Akerman Menard Price
of Denville N.J. died October 27, 2017 at her home, “Lake Openaka”. She was born January 14, 1924 in Macon, Georgia, the daughter of Margaret Akerman and Albert Robert Menard. Her husband of fifty four years, Robert Edmunds Price, died April 12, 2001. Together they lived in England, Indonesia, and a number of places in the United States. They enjoyed traveling and circled the globe together.
She was educated in Georgia and New York before attending Randolph-Macon Woman’s College from which she graduated in 1946 with honors and Phi Beta Kappa. She received an MA degree from Sarah Lawrence College in 1953.
Mrs. Price worked in the library of Princeton University and in the public libraries of Mount Vernon and Bronxville, N.Y. From 1969 until 1980 she taught at St. John Baptist School, an Episcopal girl’s school in Mendham, N.J. She worked closely with her husband in their business, Openaka Corporation, from 1980 until her retirement in 1996.
A member for many years of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown N.J., she served on the altar guild and in other roles. She was an Associate of the Episcopal Community of St. John Baptist in Mendham. With the alumnae organization of Randoph-Macon, she served as a class officer and an officer of the local chapter. She also served as a trustee of the Friends of the New Jersey State Museum.
She is survived by her son Robert Edmunds Price, Jr. and daughter-in-law Marianne Bond Price of Mocksville, N.C.; her son Alexander Menard Price and daughter-in-law Margaretellen Ford Price of Rockaway, N.J.; three grandchildren: Robert E. Price III of Mocksville, Joan Ford Price and Alexander M. Price, Jr. of Rockaway. Her brother, Albert Robert Menard died previously.
